Candidate Awareness

AHAA will ensure that all federal candidates are made aware that:

  • Heritage Assets have ‘value’ – cultural, environmental, economic, political – into posterity
  • Without reform, the currently national heritage policy approach will inevitably result in opportunity lost for the nation
  • Heritage Assets are national public assets, i.e. not private, state or local heritage assets
  • Heritage Assets are being squandered across the nation resulting in national reputational risk and actual loss – economic and cultural
  • Heritage Asset preservation and conservation are chronically underfunded due to cost-shifting and devolution approach counterproductive yet expedient demarcations, sectorial inequality, federal pork-barrelling
  • Loss of Heritage Assets resonates across many electorates.

AND IMPORTANTLY

  • All candidates need to be made aware that there are VOTES in heritage policy reform

Note: The AHAA Survey deliberately targets candidates not political parties.

AHAA Candidate Survey

All candidates in the 2025 Australian Federal Election will be asked to respond to the following:

  • I recognise that Australia’s heritage assets hold meaning for all citizens regardless of state and territory borders and heritage assets embrace many forms.
  • I recognise that Australia’s heritage assets have shared national ‘value’ – economic, cultural, social and environmental.
  • I recognise that the level of funding allocated to preserve or protect national heritage assets is inadequate and this results in loss of irreplaceable heritage assets.
  • I am aware of the successful UK Heritage Lottery Fund and Foundation has achieved immense public support and has delivered significant social, cultural and economic benefit.
  • I support the establishment of an Australian National Heritage Lottery modelled on the UK Heritage Lottery and Foundation.
  • I support the establishment of an Australian Ministry for Heritage dedicated to the protection, management and preservation of our shared heritage assets.

Survey Responses

  • Candidates who respond to AHAA will be listed a PDF linked below.
  • Updates will be made regularly in the lead up to the Federal Election 2025.
  • No listing indicates no response from the candidate and a lack of support for Heritage Reform.
